Frequently asked questions.

What horses do you take?

We will work with you to accommodate nearly any size, breed, discipline, personality, or age of horse. We do not take Stallions.

Who will my horse be turned out with?

We run one small herd with both geldings and mares. As needed, we run a second herd to accommodate for situations such as personality differences, mares and geldings needing to be separated, or for those needing limited/no access to grass. Please don’t hesitate to let us know what your horse’s needs are, as we are willing to accommodate.

How often is someone around to watch the horses?

The owners of Wild Prairie Boarding live and work on-site and the horses are checked on multiple times throughout the day.

Is the indoor riding arena heated?

No, the indoor riding arena is not heated, but it does have an insulated ceiling. During the warmer months, the arena has three large doors that are able to be opened to bring in direct sunlight and fresh air.

How do I book my own time in the arena?

While the riding arena is a shared space between boarders, we do offer private arena time! You can book individual time in the arena using our Arena Calendar on the website.

Are your riding trails on public land?

No, our onsite riding trails are regularly maintained and privately owned by Wild Prairie.

Do you have a dry lot?

Yes! Our herd has access to a dry lot at all times with shelter, water, hay, and salt blocks. We do also offer a private and/or semi-private dry lot to accommodate varying horses’ needs.

How do you manage your pastures?

We utilize rotational grazing, mowing, dragging, reseeding, and hand-picking weeds.

What type of hay do you feed?

All of our hay is purchased locally and consists of a mix of grasses. Each crop of hay is tested and is stored in our pole barn, on pallets.

What about water?

We have automatic waterers installed that are accessible 24/7.

Will you send me updates on how my horse is doing?

Absolutely! Upon your request, we will send you photos and/or videos of your horse as often you would like.

Do you have a veterinarian nearby?

Yes! We have an equine vet 3 miles away and two other equine veterinarians that we work with within 35 minutes of the farm.

What fly control do you provide?

We use fly predators and fly traps to manage throughout the summer months. We also implement good manure, weed, and sanitation management practices.

Will you blanket my horse? Will you feed my horse grain and/or supplements?

Yes, we will blanket and/or grain any horse for a small fee. Owners are to supply blankets and additional feed/supplements.
